Wife of 2x Cy Young-winner Tim Lincecum dies

The San Francisco Giants will celebrate their 2012 Championship team this weekend, but one major player will be missing- Tim Lincecum.

The team announced that his wife, Christina Coleman, died of cancer in late June, SF Gate reports.

Lincecum won two Cy Young awards during his career-the highest award given to pitchers in the Major Leagues.

“The Giants were extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Tim Lincecum’s wife, Cristin Coleman,” the Giants said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to Tim, Cristin’s family and all those whose lives she touched as a friend and teacher.

According to an obituary in the San Mateo Daily Journal, Coleman worked as a principal at Washington Elementary School in Burlingame, south of San Francisco.

“If you had a relationship with Cristin, my deepest condolences. You aren’t alone, many of us are feeling this keenly,” wrote Superintendent Chris Mount-Benites in an email to the Journal.

“During her illness, Cristin never expressed fear, anger, or self-pity, but she was deeply sad to be leaving all of us so soon and for causing us to grieve. And she was profoundly grateful for all your love and support – ‘Washington people have such big hearts.’ It was never about her,” her parents Randy and Sue Coleman wrote. “It was about Love – Love for her family, her friends, her hundreds of students and their families, and her many professional colleagues. Cristin told me she wasn’t afraid because she was leaving all her love to us, the lucky ones whose lives and hearts she touched.”

Lincecum won three world series with the Giants- 2010, 2012 and 2014.

His mother Rebecca Asis is a child of Filipino immigrants.
