Authorities say a man in St. Paul Minnesota allegedly used a gun to shoot his wife while their five children were playing before shooting himself.
According to MPR News, the shooting occurred Tuesday evening. A St. Paul police report states that Yia Xiong, 33, shot his wife Ka Lor, 30, at their home on the 2000 block of California Avenue East. He then used the same gun to shoot himself.
The couple had been together for over 10 years. According to KARE 11, the family had just returned from their annual summer camping trip to Duluth before the shooting occurred.
PEOPLE Magazine reports that the couple’s five children, ages 2 to 9, were playing inside the family home when the shooting occurred. Xiong allegedly told the children to go downstairs. His 9-year-old later called 911 after he heard gunshots and found his parents upstairs.
Xiong’s older brother, Chee Nou Xiong, was shocked by the news.
“Just thinking about my sister-in-law, and my brother. It’s, it’s just heartbroken. They won’t be there anymore,” Chee Nou Xiong said at a press conference, according to MPR News.
A GoFundMe has been started to help support the children.
