Fans, media say Steven Kwan should be rookie of the year contender

CATEGORIES

Major League Baseball fans and writers think Steven Kwan’s name should be included in the list of Rookie of the Year contenders.

The Cleveland Guardians outfielder’s rookie season got off to a hot start. He became the first player since 1901 to reach base 15 times after just four games. Although he has struggled with injuries, Kwan has continued to be a key player for the Guardians.

Two favorites for American League Rookie of the Year are Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez and Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.

Sports Illustrated blogger Tommy Wild believes that Kwan’s name should also be on the list.

“Out of all three, Kwan easily has the best batting average and it isn’t really close. He is batting .301 this season versus Rodriguez’s .266 and Rutschman’s .255,” he writes.

“Kwan also has 119 hits this season which is more than Rodriguez. (It makes sense Adley wouldn’t have as many hits since he was called up during the season.)”

Kwan’s team also tweeted a quote from a sports broadcaster noting that he should be a Rookie of the Year favorite despite playing for a small market.

Fans on Twitter also think Kwan should be in contention.
