Police are investigating a possible anti-Asian attack in Washington D.C.

According to NBC Washington, occurred on August 18 around 1:45 a.m. Three Northern Virginia residents were walking westbound on the 1400 block of K Street NW. A man approached and asked if he could speak with them.

When the group ignored him, the man allegedly became upset, yelled an anti-Asian slur and told the group to “go back to your country.” He then followed the group to their car and threatened to stab one of the victims in her mouth. As they attempted to drive away, he threw a brick through their car window.

The incident left two of the victims with non-life threatening injuries.

The Council on American Islamic Relations issued a statement condemning the attack.

“We condemn this apparently bias-motivated attack and urge law enforcement to be swift and thorough in their investigation, and to bring appropriate hate crime charges once the alleged perpetrator is apprehended,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “The rising tide of anti-Asian hate must be repudiated by all communities and leaders nationwide.”
