Last Sunday, Krishnan Jayaraman was the victim of an anti-Hindu attack at Taco Bell in Fremont, California.
According to ABC 7 News Bay Area, Jayaraman was waiting to pick up his Taco Bell order from the Grimmer Boulevard location on the night of August 21, when another customer approached him. The man launched into an 8.5 minute long anti-Hindu speech, which Jayaraman caught on video.
“Walking around with your f*****g toes out. B***h, this ain’t India,” the man is recorded saying, according to ABC 7 News Bay Area. “You f****d India up. You’re f*****g America up.”
The man said that Jayaraman “bathes in cow urine” and eats “cow sh*t,” Religious News reports. Jayaraman believes the man revealed his motivation at the end of his rant.
“Toward the end of the video, he said the late Prime Minister’s name and threw an f-bomb at it. And then I realized, oh my god, he may be Indian,” Jayaraman told ABC 7 News Bay Area.
He believes the comments are linked to an independence movement in northern India. When he realized the man might have ulterior motives, he asked the Taco Bell supervisor to call the police.
The Taco Bell employees did not help Jayaraman and another patron eventually called the police, Religious News reports. Taco Bell has not commented on the incident but Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington did release a statement condemning the incident:
“We take hate incidents and hate crimes seriously, and understand the significant impact they have on our community. These incidents are despicable. We are here to protect all community members, regardless of their gender, race, nationality, religion, and other differences. We would like to urge the community to be respectful of each other and to immediately report any circumstances such as this that, upon investigation may rise to the level of a crime. In the event of a hate crime, we will devote all available resources to follow up and investigate. Fremont is one of the nation’s most diverse communities, and we are thankful for the contributions of community members from different cultures and backgrounds.”
