A 71-year-old Filipina American woman named Enelia was beaten and robbed outside of a Jollibee in Vallejo, California.
According to KTVU, the attack occurred around 7 p.m. Sunday at Vallejo Plaza near Sonoma Boulevard and Redwood Street. Enelia’s stepson Dennis Perez says the family had just finished up eating at Jollibee. He told NBC News Bay Area that Enelia was walking back to their car when she was attacked.
“She was walking, felt someone grabbing her purse, she pulled back and when she started tug-of-warring with him, felt a hit to the back of her head, and she blacked out for a moment,” said Perez. “Next thing she knew, she was on the ground and could hear my dad calling her name.”
Enelia’s 82-year-old husband witnessed the attack. According to KTVU, he said the suspect drove off with his wife’s purse.
Emergency services responded quickly and Enelia was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo. Doctors say she suffered bleeding in her brain, NBC News Bay Area reports. She is being kept at the hospital for observation. Her family hopes she will be released after further testing on Tuesday.
