Minnesota Governor speaks out after mosque vandalized

A vandal caused $50,000 in damage this weekend to a mosque in Minneapolis, reports WCCO.

Cameras caught him literally smashing his way through the door.

The act so brazen even Minnesota’s Governor saw the need to speak up.

“While this vandalism was meant to divide our communities, Minnesotans stand firm in our commitment to support our Muslim neighbors,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a tweet. “Hate has no home here.”

It happened at the Tawfiq Islamic Center in Minneapolis late Sunday night, but news of the crime is just being made public now.

In all the vandal spent 40 minutes inside the mosque destroying everything in his sight.

It’s the fourth attack on a mosque in this state this year.

“Although many of the motives are different, the result is all the same, which means it leaves communities damaged, losing their sense of safety, terrorized,” said Abdulahi Farah of the Muslim Coalition to WCCO.

Police believe theft may have been the motive, although some may wonder why someone intent on stealing things also felt the need to destroy property.

“He began to destroy almost every single door he could find. He destroyed the offices. He vandalized the property,” Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR-MN, said to CBS News.
