Republican Allen Fung who ran unopposed in the congressional primary in Rhode Island will face Democrat Seth Magaziner in the general election this November.
Fung is the former mayor of Cranston who has disavowed Trump’s false election fraud claims and says he would have backed major gun reform legislation in Congress, reports Reuters.
The race is considered competitive as voters will decide who will replace retiring incumbent Democrat James Langevin.
Magaziner, who is currently the state treasurer, defeated former State Rep David Segal by a sizable margin- 54 – 16%, according to the Providence-Journal.
Fung has twice run for governor of the state and lost both times. However, he did well in the 2nd Congressional District and Republicans believe this seat is winnable.
