A college student from Tribeca pleaded guilty to brutally murdering his mother in order to access his inheritance.

According to New York Daily News, prosecutors accused 25-year-old Jared Eng of murdering his mother Paula Chin on New Year’s Eve 2019 at their shared apartment in Tribeca. They say Eng beat her and stabbed her with a knife.

Eng’s girlfriend Jennifer Lopez allegedly helped him sanitize the apartment after the murder. They moved the body to Eng’s New Jersey family home in Chin’s car. According to The New York Post, Eng’s other lover joined them at the home and helped put Chin’s body in a garbage can.

Prosecutors say Eng murdered his mother to gain access to his share of an inheritance his late father left behind. Eng believed the share was worth over $10 million, New York Daily News reports.

Eng pleaded guilty to one count of murder in the Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday. He is expected to be charged with 18 years to life in prison.
