The Karate Kid franchise is back. According to Variety, Sony has announced that a new Karate Kid movie will premiere on June 7, 2024.
The new movie does not have a synopsis. Details about the cast and crew have also not been revealed.
The last movie in the franchise was the 2010 re-make with Will Smith’s son Jayden Smith. However, in 2018, Youtube Red released a spin-off show called “Cobra Kai,” which was later picked up by Netflix. The show follows Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence as they navigate their lives with their families.
According to Deadline, the co-creator of “Cobra Kai” Jon Hurwitz addressed Sony’s announcement on Twitter. He made it clear that he and the Cobra Kai producers were not involved in the new film.
“The guys and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to someday. But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. Don’t know much about it, but wish it well,” Hurwitz tweeted.
