Steven Kwan put the game out of reach Sunday with his first grand slam, striking the decisive blow as the Cleveland Guardians won the American League Central Division.
The lead-off hitter in his rookie season is batting .298 and has hit six homers.
The Guardian announcer used the nickname “King Kwan” when describing the 25-year-old’s blast, however, Kwan has been dubbed many names of affection as he has become one of the favorites among Guardian fans.
Others have dubbed him “Obi Kwan Kenobi” and “The Chosen Kwan,” according to News5.

The Guardians actually clinched the AL Central earlier Sunday when the Chicago White Sox lost 4-1 to the Detroit Tigers, WKCY reported. It will be their first playoff appearance since the shortened 2020 season.
The win, however, allowed the Guardians to celebrate in the locker room following a victory.
Kwan has been mentioned as a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate. Whether he wins or not, he’s sure to get some votes.
He also won a NCAA World Series title as an Oregon Beaver in 2018.
