NY county sees increase in robberies targeting Asian Americans

Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department says there has been an increase in thefts and robberies targeting Asian Americans in Hudson Valley, New York.

According to Mid Hudson News, Acting Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati said the robbers appear to be robbing the homes of Asian American business owners.

“The crimes occurred in the homes of workers in Asian-owned restaurants, nail salons, liquor stores and other businesses,” he said in a letter to the community. “We believe victims are being followed from their places of business to their home in order to commit these crimes against them.

Daily Freeman reports that police have asked the community to stay vigilant and pay attention to their surroundings. Authorities have not said whether they have leads on potential suspects.
