Documentary examines life for Muslim Americans after 9/11

A new documentary examines what life was like for Muslim Americans after 9/11.

“Act of Worship” tells the story of Muslim Americans, particularly young Muslim Americans, who grew up ina post-9/11 world. According to The Detroit Free Press, the film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

According to WNYC, Nausheen Dadabhoy interviewed several Muslim American women for the documentary. The California filmmaker also included supplemented contemporary footage with old home videos.

“I made this film for primarily a Muslim audience. As a Muslim American, I can think of a handful of times that I felt seen in popular culture, like when I read a Ms. Marvel comic for the first time or watched the opening scene in Riz Ahmed’s The Long Goodbye—and it’s often been by other Muslim storytellers,” Dadabhoy said in an interview with Classic Couple Academy. “I really wanted our communities to watch this and see their lived experience reflected back to them.”
