Brían Nguyen is the first transgender contestant to win a local Miss America organization pageant, ABC 4 reports.
The teenager from New Hampshire was crowned “Miss Greater Derry 2023” on Sunday night. She will also receive a scholarship as part of the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program, founded in 1986. Nguyen is currently a freshman at Nashua Community College majoring in business management.
“I hope to use my degree so that I can create sustainable, ethical, and inclusive products such as clothing, cosmetics, and accessories. I also hope to continue to grow my career in the modeling and social media industry,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
According to Sportskeeda, Nguyen started a social media movement called #QueensAreEverywhere. It aims to give young people the confidence they need to succeed in their respective industries.
Nguyen hopes she will continue to make her community proud.
