Police in Surrey, British Columbia released the identity of an 18-year-old teen killed in a fight with another student at a Surrey, British Columbia high school.
The Vancouver Sun reports authorities say Mehakpreet Sethi died after being rushed to the hospital Tuesday shortly after being stabbed in the parking lot at Tamanawis Secondary School.
Investigators believe Sethi knew his attacker and that the fight is not related to a Lower Mainland gang problem, according to CTV.
Still, the incident left the community reeling and has captured the attention of city leaders.
“It is particularly disturbing that this violent incident occurred in the middle of the day while school was in session,” Mayor Brenda Locke said. “As a mother and grandmother, my heart is with all who have been impacted by this senseless tragedy.”
