Actress Kelly Marie Tran has launched a production company with her Raya and the Last Dragon director Carlos López Estrada.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production company is called Antigravity Academy (AGA). The company will focus on producing short-form content, theater programs, movies and television from historically marginalized communities.
“We could not be happier about providing a creative home for emerging filmmakers who are looking for a window into this often insular industry,” Tran and López Estrada said in a joint statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “From our own experiences as young creatives, we understand how invaluable a support system can be to someone who is looking to break in. We are looking forward to partnering up with the most inspiring independent voices coming from communities that have been historically overlooked and helping them usher their stories into the world.”
Winsor Yuan, previously vice president of film and television at Jared Stern’s A Stern Talking To, will be in charge of AGA’s film and television division. Doug Klinger will be the head of short-form content.
Tran is not new to production. According to IMBD, she was the executive producer for Lilly Topples the World and Summertime. Collider reports that she is producing and starring in an upcoming biopic of civil rights activists Amanda Nguyen.
