Disney developing Indian princess musical

According to Deadline, Disney is currently working on a musical inspired by a princess from Indian history.

Executives at Disney have tapped Bend it Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha to develop the movie alongside Paul Mayeda Berges. Both Chadha and Berges will serve as writers for the script. Chadha will also direct and produce the movie.

According to CBR, Chadha has worked on musicals before. She and Berges produced the musical theater version of Bend it Like Beckham in 2015. She also produced a musical called Bride & Prejudice which included Western and Indian musical influences.

Disney has not revealed any further details about the movie.
