The suspect accused of killing a 62-year-old woman in Queens has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges, PIX 11 reports.
On November 26, 2021, Guiying Ma was sweeping her sidewalk when authorities say Elisaul Perez attacked her. The Brooklyn man hit Ma in the head with a large rock. Ma slipped into a coma and died 3 months later.
According to CBS News, officials announced Thursday that Perez pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges. He will be sentenced in January and could face up to 20 years in prison.
“Her family, friends and neighbors still mourn the loss of Guiying Ma, whose life was senselessly taken last year in this brutal attack,” District Attorney Melinda Katz told PIX 11. “The defendant will now be held to account for an unprovoked attack that robbed a family of their loved one. The lengthy sentence to be imposed by the court is fully justified.”
