Jin, the oldest member of K-Pop group BTS, has begun his military service in South Korea.
According to CNN, the 30-year-old arrived at the Yeoncheon army base in northern Gyeonggi province on Tuesday. He will spend the next 18 months with the army.
BBC reports that Jin’s services begain with a five-week bootcamp at Yeoncheon. It is believed that he will then be stationed with a frontline unit near the North Korean border after his training.
Jin had asked fans to stay away as he entered service but a few hundred people gathered near the base Tuesday hoping to catch a glimpse of the musician.
“It’s a very cold winter and I’m thinking of him going to suffer in the military. That’s why I came here,” Lee Hey-Kyoung, a 40-year-old from Seoul, told CNN.
