A post office in Placentia, California, is now named after fallen U.S. Army Private First Class Jang Ho Kim, following the passage of a House bill on Dec. 14.
The PFC Jang Ho Kim Post Office Building honors Kim, who was killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad, Iraq on Nov. 13, 2006. U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) introduced the bill in February in efforts to preserve PFC Kim’s story, according to a Dec. 14 press release.
“While PFC Jang Ho Kim left us too soon, his legacy of courage and service lives on through his loved ones, others he inspired to serve and all those who share his story,” Representative Kim said in the press release. “We can enjoy our American freedoms because of the sacrifice of those who have served.”
Jang Ho Kim was a South Korean immigrant who moved to the U.S. in 1990, graduating from Valencia High School in Orange County and enrolling in Fullerton College prior to his enlistment in June 2005. For his service, Kim received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and four other awards, medals and badges.
“Jang Ho was a dedicated Army servicemember, promising young man, and proud American,” the Kim family said in the press release. “We love and miss him dearly and are very grateful to the Congresswoman for working hard to honor his memory.”
