Tua Tagovailoa back in concussion protocol

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel says Tua Tagovailoa is back in concussion protocol after the team’s loss to the Greenbay Packers on Sunday, ESPN reports.

Tagovailoa displayed and admitted to experiencing concussion symptoms on Monday when he spoke to team doctors. McDaniel expressed concern for Tagovailoa’s health.

“I just want guys to really be done right by, by the information we have, the science and all the medical expertise that we rely on,” McDaniel told ESPN. “I care very deeply about each and every player, I take that very serious. I just want him to get healthy and have peace of mind in that regard. … It’s about the human being and making sure he’s squared away.”

Former players have also said that Tagovailoa should end his season.

“Tua Tagovailoa shouldn’t play any more this season if the NFL is serious about health and safety and concussions,” ex-defensive tackle Booger McFarland said on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown,” according to Yahoo Sports.

Former quarterback Steve Young doesn’t necessarily believe that Tua needs to end his season. He did, however, call on the NFL to develop different protocols.

“The final frontier of medical science is the brain,” Young said, according to Yahoo Sports. “…We as players do not understand or have any insight into how much risk is involved with our heads. We don’t know, and medical science can’t really tell us. In the end, we’re out there every day risking something we can’t assess.
