Trump appointed US Attorney to oversee a special probe of Biden

U.S. Attorney General Robert Garland Thursday appointed Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

“This appointment underscores for the public the department’s commitment to both independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters, and to making decisions indisputably guided only by the facts and the law,’ Garland said in a statement.

President Biden vowed to cooperate with the investigation and says his office immediately returned the documents found in his home and a DC Think Tank as soon as they were discovered.

Former President Trump is also being investigated after top-secret documents were discovered at his Florida residence.

Hur served as the U.S. Attorney in Maryland from 2018 to 2021 after being appointed by Trump. According to NBC, he is currently in private practice at law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher where he focuses on white collar crime and crisis management.

“I will conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment,” Hur said in a statement. “I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service.”

The Hill reports he is a Harvard and Stanford graduate. He is a former clerk of Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. He’s also prosecuted Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa and state Del. Cheryl Glenn.

In addition, he was the chair of Maryland’s chair of the Asian American Hate Crimes Workgroup.

“U.S. Attorney Hur has been a great and effective partner at holding violent offenders accountable, especially with his work in addressing gang violence and intimidation,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in a statement when Hur stepped down.
