Innocent bystander killed in Massachusetts mall shooting

A stray bullet struck and killed a hairstylist in a Holyoke mall 90 miles west of Boston, reports WCVB5.

Police say Trung Tran was working on the hair of Kenneth Santana-Rodriguez when a man known to Santana-Rodriguez approached him and a fight broke out, leading to a shooting.

“The victim was an innocent bystander to a confrontation between two other people,” the DA’s office said.

Santana-Rodriguez smirked in court Monday as he faced charges of murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to WHDH.

Tony Vo of A Touch of Beauty Hair & Nails where Tran worked set up a Go Fund Me page for his employee to help cover funeral expenses.

“We lost not only our coworker but our friend, someone’s father and someone’s husband, wrote Vo. “This has been very hard on all of us. Trung (Michael) was a hardworking, lovely employee, who always made sure not only his customers but his coworkers were ok.”

So far more than $27,000 has been raised through the campaign.

Santana-Rodriguez is being held without bail.
