National Museum of Asian Art announces performers for centennial celebration

The National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, DC announced the headline performers for its centennial celebration. According to a press release, Eric Nam and Raveena will perform during the main-stage celebration for the museum’s 100th anniversary on Saturday, May 13.

“Eric Nam and Raveena are two of the biggest names in music today. Raised in the U.S. and inspired by their respective backgrounds, these artists embrace Korean and Indian influences as means of experimentation and self-expression and truly embody the Asian American experience,” NMAA Director Chase  Robinson said in a statement. “We are delighted to welcome them to the main stage during our centennial celebrations.”

Nam is a singer-songwriter who grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Boston College. He debuted as K-pop artist in 2012 and was later named GQ Korea’s “Man of the Year.” Raveena is an Indian American R&B, rock and soul artist. According to a press release, she is the first-generation descendant of genocide survivors and Reiki healers. Her latest album Asha’s Awakening combines Bollywood music and influences from Indian artists like R.D. Burman and Asha Bhosle.

The National Museum of Asian Art is a part of the Smithsonian museums. It will celebrate its 100th anniversary for the entirety of 2023. Information about other celebratory events can be found on its website.
