Simu Liu criticizes NBA’s celebrity look-alike bit

Simu Liu is calling out the NBA’s All-star Weekend for its celebrity look-alike segment.

The segment aired on ESPN on Friday during All-Star Weekend at Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a photo of Liu and a random Asian man in the crowd appeared on the jumbotron as part of the “celebrity look-alike cam.”

Liu, who is attending All-Star weekend, said the segment “wasn’t cool.”

“to be perfectly clear the entire org and ops team surrounding all-star have been nothing but absolutely stellar to myself and all my friends. this was just one person with a camera. and no disrespect to my man in the videotron either! he’s gorgeous we just don’t look alike,” he wrote on Twitter.

Many Asian Americans pointed out that the segment played off the racist stereotype that all Asians look alike.

According to Buzzfeed News, the NBA has yet to respond.
