Asian Americans targeted in Ohio burglaries, township says

CATEGORIES

A township trustee from Westchester, Ohio says that Asian Americans are being targeted by burglars.

According to FOX 19, police reports show that one home in Westchester was targeted twice by burglars, once in September 2022 and once in February 2023. The victim is the owner of a local Chinese restaurant

“It’s absolutely targeted, there’s no doubt about it, because we have already received reports on similar cases that are targeting Asian American business owners, particularly the restaurant owners,” Leo Chan, executive director of the Midwest USA Chinese Chamber of Commerce told FOX 19 Friday.

Asian Americans have been the targets of burglaries throughout the country. In Pennsylvania, a burglar ring allegedly targeted the homes of Asian American business owners, believing they kept large amounts of cash at home. The group also allegedly targeted Asian Americans in Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.
