Police: Murder near Cambodian New Year festival gang-related

Police are calling the shooting death of a 16 year old gang related, reports the Fresno Bee.

It happened near the Cambodian Buddhist New Year Celebration in the city.

Your Central Valley reports that police determined the people involved ran towards the festival and have identified the victim as Nolyn Chann.

“We know that Nolyn Chann was one of those gang members. He’s so young, it appears he just recently joined into the gang, but he was definitely associating himself with being a part of an Asian gang,” said Tony Botti for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Home surveillance video described by ABC30 showed one group running towards another group. Gunfire erupted after one person was getting grabbed or shoved.

Police believe Chann may have been targeted.

The suspect is still outstanding and no description has been released.
