Woman faces hate crime charges for stabbing on bus in Indiana

An Indiana woman accused of stabbing an Asian American teen in the head, because she’s Asian, will face hate crime charges, reports ABC News.

It happened in Bloomington on a public transit bus on January 11. Billie Davis is suspected of willfully causing bodily injury “because of the victim’s race and national origin.”

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

According to CNN, Davis’ defense attorney says those who know her do not believe she is racist saying “They don’t recall her expressing racist ideas or engaging in hate speech.”

The federal hate crime charge means she could get life in prison, reports Fox59. Davis reportedly told police she stabbed the woman in the head for “being Chinese” and said there “would be one less person to blow up our country.”

Investigators say surveillance video shows her striking the victim 7 times with the knife.

The incident inspired several students to organize anti-Asian hate rallies and to being several support group.
