Production studios are currently searching for a young Korean American to play Michelle Zauner, the lead vocalist of the indie pop band Japanese Breakfast, in the upcoming film adaptation of the memoir Crying in H Mart.
The memoir focuses largely on Zauner’s relationship with her mother who passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer in 2014. In the memoir, she remembers her mother through dishes she used to cook.
According to the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment, the casting call is searching for actors, specifically Korean American actors between the ages of 18-25, to play the role. Applicants must send a creative video introduction as part of their application.
