Sony Pictures has released an official trailer for Randall Park’s directorial debut film Shortcomings.
Shortcomings is based on Adrian Tomine’s graphic novel of the same name. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story follows Ben (Justin H. Min) a struggling filmmaker living in Berkeley, California, and his girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki). They decide to take a break when Miko moves to New York City for an internship.
The film explores their relationship and provides commentary on the Asian American dating scene.
Shortcomings also features performances from Sherry Cola as Ben’s best friend Alice; Debby Ryan as Ben’s love interest and Sonoya Mizuno as Meredith, Alice’s girlfriend.
Park’s directorial debut film was first shown during the Dramatic Competition section at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. It currently has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Moviegoers can watch the film when it premieres in theaters on August 4.
