Jason Scott Lee recently confirmed that he will make a brief cameo appearance in the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake. Lee was the voice of David in the original animated film.
According to Consequence Film, Lee mentioned his cameo during an appearance on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast.
“I got a little, small [part]. They threw me some bones, and I said, ‘Yeah, absolutely! In any capacity,’” Lee said. “I just wanted to be a part of it, so it’s a three-day cameo, and I think it will be fun.”
In April, Disney announced that it had cast Kahiau Machado as Nani’s boyfriend David. Shortly after the announcement evidence of Machado using racial slurs surface, Teen Vogue reports. On April 21, Disney said it had recast David with Kaipo Dudoit taking the role.
Maia Kealoha will play Lilo, and Sydney Agudong will play Nani. Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani, has also been cast in a new role as Mrs. Kekoa. Other castmembers include Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen and Amy Hill.
The casting of the live-action remake has been criticized for colorism. Disney does not appear to have released a statement addressing concerns about colorism.
