A man facing hate crime charges for an anti-Asian bias incident failed to appear in court last week, The Oregonian reports.
The suspect, a 29-year-old male, was arrested by Portland police in September for allegedly carrying out a series of anti-Asian attacks. He reportedly yelled “I hate Asians,” at a group of Asians entering a Mama Bird restaurant and then began throwing dishes.
Witnesses also said that the suspect followed two Asian women, eventually shoving one of the women to the ground.
The suspect was recently charged with second-degree bias crime and harassment, plus first- and second-degree criminal mischief, but failed to appear in court last week, The Oregonian reports. A judge has now issued a warrant for his arrest.
The police and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to The Oregonian’s requests for comments.
