Men charged in Seattle robberies possibly targeting Asians plead not guilty

Five men charged in a series of robberies that mostly targeted the homes of Asian families in Seattle have pleaded not guilty.

According to KOMO News, the five men appeared in King County Court on Thursday morning. They faced several charges including theft, burglary, robbery, attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

All five adult suspects pleaded not guilty.

Police have been investigating a series of home invasion robberies since June. According to KING 5, they say there have been a total of 14 incidents. Most of the victims were Asian American.

The suspects were arrested on September 27 and charged on September 29. Authorities are not sure why they targeted mostly Asian Americans. If there is enough evidence, KING 5 says prosecutors could bring hate crime charges against the suspects.

A 16-year-old has also been charged in connection with the robberies. On October 2, he pleaded not guilty and asked to be released on house arrest. The judge denied his request, forcing the teenager to sit in juvenile detention.
