An elementary school in Missouri City, Texas has been officially dedicated to the late Sonal Bhuchar, who unfortunately passed away in 2019 from cancer.
Bhuchar, who immigrated from Mumbai to Texas, spent her life serving others.
According to the Fort Bend Independent, she served on the Fort Bend Independent School District Board of Trustees, eventually becoming Board President for two years. She also volunteered for numerous organizations like Child Advocates, the Literacy Council, the Fort Bend Education Foundation, and the Cultural Arts Foundation.
In 2015, Bhuchar was also appointed to the One Star National Service Commission Board. While on the board she, supervised the administration of AmeriCorps programs in Texas, American Bazaar reports.
Bhuchar was recognized for her numerous contributions to her community as a volunteer and a leader. Now, the elementary school located outside of Houston will carry her name and honor her impact.
