Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Monday announced a new portal where Chinese nationals and other foreigners from “countries of concern” register their property, reported the Florida Daily.
The launch is part of a new law signed by him in May to make it more difficult for those from countries perceived to be enemies of the United States from buying homes and land.
According to Florida Commerce, Florida statues specifically prohibits any person or business affiliated with the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party from acquiring property and requires the registration of all property owned in Florida.
“Protecting Floridians and Florida’s infrastructure from agents like the Chinese Communist Party and other foreign adversaries is important to our state’s security,” said the governor who is challenging Donald Trump for the Republican nomination for president. “I am proud to have signed the strongest legislation in the nation to fight back against foreign malign influence.”
In August, a judge refused to block implementation of the law that is being challenged by the ACLU and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. However, both groups are continuing their legal challenges.
