Filipino American physician Dr. Eleanor Concepcion “Connie” Mariano will be a part of the selection committee for the 72nd Miss Universe in El Salvador on Nov. 18, GMA News Online reports.
Dr. Mariano was the physician for former Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama while they were in office.
The distinguished doctor also had a successful career in the Navy. According to CNN Philippines, she was promoted to Rear Admiral in 2000, becoming the first Filipino American to reach that rank.
After leaving the White House, Dr. Mariano started as a consultant at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. According to GMA News Online, she would eventually found her own medical concierge practice.
Last year’s Miss Universe pageant was won by Filipino American R’Bonney Gabriel. The 2023 Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to begin this Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
