Man arrested in fatal hit & run of 3-year-old boy in New York

A 20-year-old driver accused of driving away from the scene after pulling out of a parking space and fatally striking a three-year-old boy in New York has been arrested, reports CBS New York.

Kevin Gomez faces charges in the death of Quintas Chen.

According to the Daily Mail, the toddler fell down in the middle of the street Wednesday night in Queens after being struck by the side tires of a white Infiniti.

Paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital where he died.

Authorities found the Infiniti abandoned several blocks away. Police arrested Gomez on Thursday and charged him with driving away from the scene of an accident and driving without a license.

“He was a sweet boy. He was very adorable,” father Jimmy Chen said to CBS New York in Chinese. “He’s so loving. We miss him so much.”

The family is raising money in hopes of paying for medical expenses and sending his body to Oklahoma where he can be buried next to his grandparents.

“Gone far too soon, their young son was the light of their lives and they were all looking forward to spending the holidays together,” wrote family friend Edmond Wong who organized a GoFundMe on behalf of the Chens.

“Instead, the grieving parents are now forced to process this unbearable loss as they try to endure their lives without their baby boy.”

As of early Friday evening in New York, the campaign had raised $4500 of its $50,000 goal.
