After suffering a defeat in her singles match, Jessica Pegula bounced back to earn an important victory for the U.S. at the United Cup in Sydney, Australia.
According to ESPN, Pegula and her mixed-doubles partner American Taylor Fritz defeated Katie Boulter and Neal Skupski, who represented Great Britain, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7. Pegula had lost her singles match to Boylter in a three-set thriller 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
“I had a really tough match,” Pegula said, according to ATP Tour. “First match back for the season, almost three hours long. Brutal heat. But she played great. She played unbelievable. I felt like I played pretty well. There’s things I could have done better. But first match. We’ll just keep trying to learn and improve.”
She credited her doubles partner for helping her get back on track.
“Then Taylor took care of business, thank goodness. I thought he played great, was serving well. We were able to turn around that mixed match, which was really important. We’re still undefeated in mixed,” Pegula added, according to ATP Tour.
