Man in Chinatown called terrorist and sprayed with unknown subtance

A man in New York City’s Chinatown was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance after being called a terrorist, New York Daily News reports.

The attack occurred around 9 a.m. on November 7, but the New York Police Department recently told the Daily News the incident was being investigated as a hate crime.

“Terrorist number 1!” the man screamed at the victim who was standing outside of a parking garage on Mulberry St. near Bayard St. He then sprayed a caustic liquid in the victim’s face.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the attack. Police believe the suspect is white, between 25 and 35-years-old and between 140 and 160 pounds. They have not revealed further details about the identity of the victim.

Hate crimes in major cities continue to persist. A recent report found that there was an increase in hate crimes from 2022 to 2023 in 25 major American cities.
