A few media outlets were quick to report that Ali Wong and Steven Yeun were the first Asian Americans to win in their categories- Best Actor and Actress in a limited series at the Golden Globes Sunday.
They were only half right.
Darren Criss who is Filipino and European took that prize in 2019 for his role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, becoming the first Asian American male to win.
Steven Yeun is the first Korean American to win the award and Ali Wong is the first Asian American woman to be so honored.
According to Inside the Magic, Entertainment Tonight incorrectly reported that both Yeun and Wong were the first Asian Americans to walk away with Globes in their categories. The report on X was quickly deleted after being called out on social media.
US Magazine also was forced to make a correction. It blamed its error on a news release it received.
CNN’s wire service also reported the two were the first Asian Americans. As far as we can tell, that report has yet to be corrected.
