Officials say large explosions near a Sikh gurdwara in Sacramento, California, were caused by propane tanks.
The explosions were reported around 3:30 p.m. on Monday near Gerber and Bradshaw roads, ABC 10 Sacramento reports. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said everyone was out of the building, home to the Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society, at the time.
According to KCRA 3, officials believe the explosions were caused by propane tanks that caught fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
“At this point we’re not concluding anything suspicious. We’re just doing our normal investigation to make sure we can put the parts and pieces together,” said Sacramento Metro Fire Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn, per KCRA 3.
The incident comes just one day after Sikh organizers held a referendum in San Francisco calling for an independent Sikh state. The Sikh Coalition says it has contacted law enforcement to “advise them of ht need for a prompt and transparent investigation given community concerns in this political moment.”
