Rep. Tlaib calls Michigan residents to vote against Biden

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich) urged Michigan Democrats to vote “uncommitted” in the state’s upcoming Democratic primary on Saturday.

Tlaib is endorsing the campaign against Biden in protest of his policy in Gaza.

In a social media post, Tlaib called Michigan residents for support and said “We don’t want a country that supports war and bombs and destruction.” She continued “This is the way you can raise our voices. Don’t make us even more invisible.”

The Palestinian American congresswoman has criticized Biden’s involvement in the war from the beginning, NBC reports.

Her frustrations have risen since Biden has ignored the repeated calls for a cease-fire in Gaza.

“Right now, we feel complexity neglected – neglected and just unseen by our government. If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted,” Tlaib said.

Tlaib is committed to the Listen to Michigan campaign, which strives to make Biden reassess his approach to the Israel-Hamas war.

The group is led by her sister, Layla Elabed, and has gained support from former Michigan Rep. Andy Levin.

The campaign has made great efforts to show Biden the dissatisfaction with his policy in Gaza could be the determining factor in him winning a second term.

Volunteers made 150,000 phone calls during the campaign’s launch week, The Detroit News reports. Listen to Michigan has also scheduled its first rally on Tuesday at the University of Michigan and has bought its first ad.

Already, 32 state and local officials have vowed to vote “uncommitted” on Feb. 27.

The three-term congresswoman has long been vocal about her stance. In November, she used anti-Israeli rhetoric and was censured on the House floor.

Last December at a press conference, Tlaib addressed the situation directly to Biden.

“You might – you must listen to the voices of the majority of Americans and the majority of Democrats, who worked their butts off to get you elected,” Tlaib said. “You have to represent all of us, Mr. President. Not just some. Call for a cease-fire now.”
