The first two episodes of “Shogun” premiered on Tuesday and are now available for streaming on Hulu.
The series is based on James Clavell’s novel of the same name. According to a synopsis from FX, the show is set in Japan in the 1600s. It follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who is “fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.”
“Shogun” also stars Anna Sawai (“Pachinko” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”) and Cosmo Jarvis (Persuasion and Lady Macbeth).
The show currently has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 9.3 out of 10 on IMDb.
“FX’s 10-episode limited series Shōgun is a masterpiece, with an extremely talented cast performing in Japanese and English to tell a fascinating story about faith, sacrifice, and ambition,” Samantha Nelson wrote in a review for IGN.
