On Monday a German court sentenced a Michigan man to life in prison for assaulting two Asian American women near Neuschwanstein Castle, killing one of the women.
The Telegraph has identified the 31-year-old man as Troy Phillip Bohling. Footage of his arrest was captured by Eric Abneri of New York and shared widely on social media.
The attack occurred last June near Maria Bridge in Bavaria which offers a picturesque view of the castle that many say inspired Disney’s Cinderella castle. Eva Liu, 21, and Kelsey Chang, 22, were traveling in Germany to celebrate their graduation from the University of Illinois.
Bohling lured the two women away from the public path promising to show them a better view of the castle. He assaulted and raped Liu, and threw Chang down a 100-meter ravine when she tried to help her friend, The Guardian reports. He later threw Liu over the ledge.
Both girls were rescued and taken to the hospital, where Liu died hours later. According to The Guardian, the court said the strangling from Bohling was enough to kill her.
Prosecutors say Bohling used his phone to record himself assaulting Liu. The phone also contained videos of violent pornography.
Bohling confessed to raping and murdering Liu in court in February, ABC 7 Chicago reports. Now that he has been sentenced, he can apply to serve his sentence in the U.S.
