Actress Olivia Munn revealed Wednesday, March 13, that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer several months ago.
Munn broke the news in an Instagram post, noting that she has had four surgeries in the past ten months as well as numerous other cancer treatments.
In her post, Munn said she and her sister took a genetic test in February of 2023. She tested negative for 90 different cancer genes, including BRCA, a well-known breast cancer gene. She had also had a normal mammogram.
Munn’s doctor decided to calculate her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment score.
“She discovered my lifetime risk was at 37%,” Munn wrote in her post. “Because of that score I was sent to get an MRI, which led to an ultrasound, which then led to a biopsy.”
The biopsy indicated that Munn had Luminal B cancer, an aggressive molecular form of breast cancer, in both of her breasts.
In her post, Munn thanked her doctors, nurses, patient coordinators, hospital staff members, friends and family for supporting her along her treatment journey. She also encouraged other women to calculate their Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score with their doctors.
“I’m lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day,” Munn wrote.
