Olivia Rodrigo debuted the music video Friday for her song Obsessed hours before she released the deluxe edition of her album Guts (Spilled), including the unheard track So American.
Her music video features Rodrigo wearing a black dress surrounded by women in white gowns. She wears a sash reading “Miss Right Now,” reflecting the song’s lyrics that depict Rodrigo as someone who cannot help but obsess over her partner’s ex-girlfriend.
“I’m so obsessed with your ex,” Rodrigo sings in the chorus. “I know she’s been asleep on my side of your bed, and I can feel it / I’m starin’ at her like I wanna get hurt / And I remember every detail you have ever told me, so be careful, baby.”
The Grammy-winning star announced the release date of Guts (Spilled), which features Obsessed, during her show at the United Center in Chicago last Tuesday, Billboard reported.
This album features five additional tracks, including the new song So American as well as four “secret” songs that appeared on vinyl releases: Obsessed, Scared of My Guitar, Stranger and Girl I’ve Always Been, according to Billboard.
Rodrigo’s album was released in September 2023 and topped the Billboard 200 albums chart. One of the favorite tracks from the album, Vampire, ranked in the Hot 100 chart-topping lead single.
“The experience tested my confidence and patience,” Rodrigo told Variety about her writing process for Guts, Billboard reported. “It taught me some important lessons about songwriting in terms of focusing on your craft rather than just waiting for inspiration to strike. You can never sit down at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in a really bad song. It taught me that I write songs that I want to hear.”
Rodrigo is currently on her Guts World Tour, which began in February, US Weekly reported. She will perform at Madison Square Garden at the start of April and will finish the month by traveling to Europe. In mid-August, she will conclude her tour at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
“Rodrigo cemented her position in pop culture as a generation-defining artist. As a rockstar. And as an energy-filled idol that is only just beginning her career,” reads a Rolling Stone review of one of her shows.
