On Sunday, June 23 at 2 a.m., online gamer Edward Kang, 20, allegedly dressed in all black with gloves, a mask and a hammer to enter into the home of a fellow gamer.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department told the public that Kang flew from Newark Liberty International Airport to Jacksonville International Airport on Friday, after an argument with another online gamer. He is suspected to have purchased a hammer and attacked the fellow gamer after trespassing through their unlocked door.

“The victim’s stepfather reported being awakened by screams for help,” Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said. The stepfather told the police that he found his stepson on the ground, struggling with the attacker.

“A significant amount of blood” was found in both the doorway and victim’s bedroom, most likely due to the victim’s non-life-threatening yet severe head injury wounds, according to CBS News.

Both Kang and his fellow online gamer have been identified to be around the same age. They first met while playing ArcheAge, a multiplayer online role-playing game.

When police arrived, Kang told investigators the victim was “a bad person online,” and questioned how much time one would get for breaking into a house for assault.

Both men were first taken to a local hospital, where Kang was later released to the custody of the sheriff’s office and then taken into the Nassau County Jail (NJ).

Kang has been charged with armed burglary and attempted second-degree murder, but Sheriff Leeper informed that the investigation is still ongoing.
