Chinese American swimmer Torri Huske won gold in the women’s 100 meter butterfly at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, after missing out on a medal in Tokyo by 1/100 of a second, NPR reports.
Huske, 21, beat out her American teammate Gretchen Walsh, who had set the Olympic record a day earlier, PEOPLE Magazine reports.
The race was tight until the end, and after Huske touched the wall, she turned around in disbelief, realizing she had won.
“You can kind of see out of the corner of your eye, but you never really know for sure,” the Stanford University swimmer said, per PEOPLE Magazine.
