Philadelphia police have released more details about a Center City jewelry store robbery investigation.
NBC Philadelphia reports the suspect has been arrested, but authorities are still searching for the missing jewelry.
On Wednesday, July 31, 53-year-old Phu Chim stole $120,000 in jewelry from the store at Cheung’s Jade and Jewelry two weeks ago, according to investigators. Chim has had a record of previous arrests, including robbery, narcotics, and firearm charges.
According to 6abc, the SWAT team executed a search warrant on the 1600 block of South 28th Street on Aug. 3 and arrested Chim. He is facing felony charges including robbery, aggravated assault, and theft.
Investigators found nearly $200,000 worth of marijuana in his residence, including two handguns. However, the jewelry was not found at Chim’s residence, and its whereabouts are still unknown.
“This is a fine example of good, investigative teamwork with patrol and my investigators,” said Captain Jason Smith with Philadelphia police. “It’s a good chance you’re going to get caught. Especially if you commit a dumb act, such as this.”
Smith also said that Chim was a “thrill-seeker” and that narcotics were his main source of income.
He is currently in the hospital for injuries he sustained during the chase and is presently awaiting arraignment.
