The long-awaited hometowns are finally here this week! Family is one of the most important values for any Asian family, so for our girl Jenn, we are definitely vetting all of these men and their relationships with their families.
Jenn’s hometowns tour all around the USA started in Houston, TX, and Devin did not let her rest even for a moment, and the couple jumped right into a jog around town with his run club. This is by no means a frolic around the fields, in fact Devin was drenched in sweat afterwards.
You know this is a family that wakes up at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving to do the Turkey Trot 5k. Jenn was willing to throw on a pair of running shoes and a custom “Jenn and Devin” run club t-shirt and commit to the run. The rest of the hometown date went just as expected minus the family sitting in awkward silence at the thought of Devin appearing in a G-string on national television, but you know, regular family stuff.
Then Jenn flew up to Fairfield, CT to meet Jeremy and his family. Well, Jeremy’s mother might be taking this whole Bachelorette ordeal a little too seriously and had to pull Jenn aside to ask: “so, how is Jeremy doing?” in full parent-teacher conference style.
I really appreciate Jeremy’s mother for keeping it so real. She wants to know, how is her son doing amongst the other three boys in the “class”? After listening to Jenn describe her vision for a husband, she blurted out “I just don’t think that’s Jeremy.” Finally, she raised her eyebrows at Jenn also dating three other men, at one point 24 (!), besides her son at the same time. We understand, Jeremy’s mother, this is not normal whatsoever.
Across the country she goes, next up is San Diego with Jonathan. The moment Jenn ran across the field and into Jonathan’s arms really was so special and enthusiastic, perhaps, sparking love? Like Jeremy’s mother, Jonathan’s brother is also skeptical that there are other men involved in this relationship, but ultimately that little bit of negativity didn’t seem to bother Jonathan as he confessed to falling in love with Jenn.
Jetting up the coast, last but not least is Marcus from Tacoma, WA. Marcus is torn up in his own internal battles – he’s afraid that he’s not quite there yet with Jenn, wondering if perhaps he is not brave enough to take the next step in their relationship. Kudos to Marcus for being honest with himself because this feels like a normal relationship to me, especially when so much is still up in the air.
Marcus’ sister eased the couple’s concerns, which ultimately earned Marcus the rose he needed to stay another week and explore those feelings further. Unfortunately for Jeremy, he did not receive the rose but it’s all proof that nobody knows us better than our moms, and Jeremy’s mom certainly knows what’s best for her son.
